THE HIGHEST FLEXIBILITY FOR OPTIMUM PROFITABILITY

The TSW 2250 D is an updated improved version of the well known and field proven 250 kW single tube SW transmitter from Thomson Broadcast & Multimedia. The TSW 2250 D, is the first real Dual-Mode analogue and DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) high power broadcasting transmitter, and continues the long standing Thomson tradition of innovation in this domain. In addition to high quality state of the art analogue and DRM modulator, the TSW 2250 D benefits from an up to date control system with Web server and SNMP agent and from huge improvements to all the component protection systems in order to take into account the specific DRM waveform with its particularly high crest factor.

In addition to the best performance in the domain in term of digital operation, the TSW 2250 D continues to provide the highest level of redundancy for maximum service availability in combination with a very high level of reliability, ease of installation, operation and maintenance and the most attractive cost of ownership.

Optimized single block transmitter architecture

The TSW 2250 D, although very compact and fully self contained provides full accessibility to any LRU (Line Replaceable Unit) including the LV High Power Main transformer. It benefits from a reduced number of external interfaces, and the self contained architecture guarantees fast and easy installation. The highly functional architecture is based on maximum use of plug-in modules and comprises :

Built-in Dual Mode modulator/RF exciter allows operation in Analogue or DRM or simulcast mode. It is based on state of the art high level of integration using DSP (digital signal processing) components and includes the following functions.

DRM features derived from Thomson standalone DRM versatile modulator/RF exciter (Stratus TXW 5126 D). This advanced highly integrated design results from extensive experience gained all over the world since 1999 during DRM field tests and transition period of introduction of DRM services. From an incoming DRM/DI/MDI stream, this unit digitally processes very high quality I/Q base band signals to generate all the standardized DRM modes. Its analogue or digital AES/EBU local audio input allows traditional AM standard broadcast services and simulcast modes by combining with the incoming DRM/DI/MDI stream

Envelope signal generation : from the I/Q base band signal, powerful digital processing computes the envelope to generate the modulation via a high speed serial link over fiber optic lines to control the TSM power switching modules

Digital synthesizer : from the I/Q base band signal, powerful digital processing generates the RF phase modulated signal to feed the RF path of the transmitter

On-air signal optimisation : from the transmitter output RF feedback an embedded pre-correction process and automatic dynamic delay adjustment process ensure optimal transmitter output performance

High level Solid state Modulator (TSM-D) : is a digitally upgraded version of the efficient air-cooled Thomson Solid state Modulator offering exceptional audio and digital performance. The envelope signal is transformed using the latest developments in digital signal processing into a single high speed control signal for the power switching modules. This control signal (serial) is then transformed to individual control signals (parallel) for the switching modules. This end to end digital stream up to the generation of the modulated HV, minimizes the number of digital to analogue conversion to provide the highest level of performance. As with the previous generation the switching strategy ensures equal loading of all TSM-D modules whatever the modulation depth or the output power. An automatic recovery strategy detects and eliminates any malfunctioning of the switching modules allowing continued high quality operation even with multiple faulty modules.

RF chain comprises a wide band Solid state IPA (Intermediate Power amplifier) and a single tube low stress high power stage.

The wide band Solid state IPA :
The field proven low stress single tube RF stage :
User friendly transmitter Control System

provides complete transmitter control and monitoring
provides global transmitter overview during normal operation as well as detailed information down to each sub-function for advanced investigation of transmitter status
